We have five simple things that you can start doing today to take control back and start truly living.

Choose Happiness

Happiness is a choice. It sounds cliché and a little overrated, but happiness is always hanging in your closet ready for you to add to your wardrobe for the day. Everything in your life may not be going as planned and you may feel like you are not where you want to be yet, but that doesn’t mean you have to let those things steal your joy. We all have setbacks, and choosing happiness will help you to control how far you allow a setback to take you. Wake up and say, “I choose to be happy today.”

Prioritize Exercise and Health

Getting active not only promotes physical health, but also contributes to mental and emotional health as well. Choose which time of the day is best for you, make a commitment to yourself, and have a plan to follow through. Having a regular exercise routine will help you clear your mind of yesterday’s troubles and prepare you to handle what life brings you today. Make sure to fuel your body with the appropriate nutrients that will fuel your body and give you the energy to overcome any unexpected detours.

Take a Break

This one is for the workhorse, the super mom, the risk taker, the lover, and the fighter: you need a break. We know that it always seems like there is never enough time in the day, and you don’t know how to fit in your goals and dreams alongside a long list of every day to-dos. Here’s the truth: even the Energizer Bunny will eventually run out of power. You need to take time to recharge and re-set your tone for the day. You will be more efficient, and more capable of conquering the world when you take a little time to yourself.

Invest Your Time in What Motivates and Inspires You

Technology has created a place where everything is literally at your fingertips. The more time you spend playing games on your phone, looking at gossip magazines, and scrolling through your news feed feeling sorry for yourself, the more time you have wasted. You have the power to feed your mind with the tools and resources to get where you want to be every single day. When you wake up, instead of hitting the snooze on your alarm twice, pick up your phone and find a motivational article that is going to get you ready to take on the day. You are in control of what you see and what you don’t see.

Control What You Can Control

You have learned by now that life is going to happen no matter what. What you do have control over is how you respond to it. Don’t spend your time worrying about the “what-if” or “if-only”. Those thoughts will only keep you stuck in the same circumstance. You are not going to live a happy life when you are always trying to drive everyone else’s car. You need to get back into your driver’s seat and focus on your own lane. Your energy should be spent on what you can do today that will get you where you want to be tomorrow.
