This world puts a lot of pressure on us to live for the dream of what someone else’s life looks like, instead of living life for our own dream. Platforms like social media, the news, and reality television portray the fabulous life of the rich and famous as a set standard for true happiness. Even most of your friends only display their best filtered life for the public.

These false depictions of reality will leave you feeling like happiness is not going to exist until you lose twenty pounds, buy the latest Prada bag, or promote to the next big paycheck. It is important to have ambition and goals, but if you spend your time and energy working towards someone else’s life you will only end up disappointed. Happiness is so much more than living for the next big thing.

True happiness doesn’t come in the shape of a body, or the size of a closet; true happiness comes from loving yourself. At the end of the day, you are the one who has the power to live your best life. The one thing that will always hold you back is not loving yourself enough.

It’s time for you to start truly living, and we have eight reasons why you should fall madly in love with yourself.

No One Will Ever Have Your DNA.

You are uniquely and wonderfully made to be you. There is no one in your lifetime or any other lifetime that will ever replicate the exquisite design of your body. This should be enough to inspire you to do something great with the gift you have been given. Loving yourself unleashes the gifts and talents you were created for that will elevate you to new levels.

What You See Is What You Get

Even the greatest plastic surgeon or the most credited dietitian cannot change who you are. The outside can transform, but when you look in the mirror you will always see the person on the inside. Be good to yourself. Exercise regularly, fuel your body with things that will keep you healthy, and read motivational material often to develop and feed your mind.

You Are A Reflection Of Your Choices

You can either be a victim of your past or you can be prepared by your past. We don’t always make the right choices, but we always have the ability to make the wrong decision right. Be thoughtful when you make decisions. Sometimes loving yourself means making the right sacrifices right now to set yourself up with a better future.

You Have An Individual Purpose

You were created for greatness. When you don’t take the time to get to know yourself, your dreams, and your passions, you miss out on the opportunity to fulfill that greatness. You have to love your flaws and celebrate your strengths, those qualities are what will help you to learn your purpose and go after it. Your calling is fit specifically for you, love yourself enough to listen to it.

Only You Can Make Your Dreams Come True

You have the strength and the courage inside of you to make any dream come to pass. No one else is going to make a promotion happen for you, book your dream trip to Europe, or pass your final exams for your doctorate. You have to love yourself enough to put in the effort, and keep chasing your dreams, even when it seems like you aren’t moving forward. What you put out into the universe always comes back.

You Can Make A Difference

Life isn’t meant to be spent just going through the motions. Life is meant to be lived through what you are passionate about. Your passions come to life at the first sign of love, and the deeper you get, the greater a difference you will make. You have the ability to go out and change the world. Think about what legacy you are going to leave.

You Will Only Ever Be Truly Loved For Who You Are

You have to be honest with yourself. If you are pretending to be someone on the outside who doesn’t live up to who you are on the inside, you aren’t giving other people the opportunity to truly love you. Those people love you for who they think you are. You deserve to be loved for who you are, but that is only going to happen when you love yourself first.

You Go To Bed With Yourself, You Wake Up With Yourself

You can mask self-love with designer bags, promotions at work, or a highly followed social media page, but when your head hits the pillow at night you will still feel lonely. You cannot depend on other people or things to fulfill your happiness. Those only result in circumstantial happiness. Your true happiness will come from validating yourself, prioritizing yourself, and loving yourself.

Self love sounds like it should be an easy task, but when you get into the thick of it, it can be quite daunting. If it was easy, everyone would do it. What you have to understand is that when you begin to love yourself it creates a domino effect on everything else in your life. You learn to be more understanding, compassionate, genuine, sincere, appreciative, loyal and loving.

Falling madly in love with the person you see in the mirror is the greatest gift you will not only give yourself but also the people you love.
